I read an ARCopy. This well-written novel handles the omniscient
point of view with such a lightness of touch that I was hardly aware of
reading. The wonderful descriptions in this epic fantasy novel drew me into a
new world of elves, humans, goblins and dragons. I was left with the impression
of watching a movie to follow different characters through scenes rather than
see the events unfolding through the eyes of one character.
When the strong main character is pulled away from his leadership role to attend to family, he discovers weaknesses he needs to overcome. Especially so as he prepares to follow his father's wishes and seek the red sapphire. Along with his foolhardy relatives, he fails time and again to conquer his shortcomings, but never gives up. The quest is too important.
